Reed Agnew Visits Steeltown

Reed Agnew, known for his work on FX’s Wilfred and Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers, visited Steeltown to share his story and answer questions regarding his career as a writer and showrunner.

Reed’s off-the-wall humor kept us all on our toes and excited to hear more. We can’t thank him enough for taking time out of his Pittsburgh visit to meet with us!

Keep your eyes peeled for Reed’s latest project, Son of Zorn, an animated/live-action television comedy starring a cartoon barbarian who’s trying to adjust to suburban boredom.

Youth & Media’s Busy Summer

Our Youth & Media program kept themselves busy this summer by giving 18 kids from around Southwestern PA the opportunity to learn leadership skills and the tools to start a career in the entertainment industry.

We partnered with Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board & Learn and Earn Pittsburgh to give Pittsburgh’s youth an opportunity to jumpstart their careers. During the summer, our crew got the chance to film Steelers great, Jerome Bettis, as well as meeting and filming other kids working at different organizations within the Learn and Earn program.

What’s summer when it’s all work and no play, though? Our team also participated in field trips that exposed them to all that Pittsburgh has to offer. Plus, they loved the free pizza perk!

We’re so incredibly proud of the youth that we worked with this summer. Despite their age, they showed impressive responsibility and work ethic, and we know they’re destined to make a mark in Pittsburgh and beyond. Check out the hard work they put into the video below that they created for Learn and Earn Pittsburgh!

Just before Carl Kurlander, Steeltown Entertainment Project president, announced the winner of this year’s Ellen Weiss Kander Award, he foreshadowed the journey upon which its recipient was about to embark.

“The contest isn’t the end,” he told the crowd of hundreds gathered at Point Park University in May. “It’s the beginning.”

In the six months since, Stephen Knezovich has experienced many beginnings. Knezovich, winner of the $15,000 prize slated for bringing his short screenplay to the screen, has attended the first casting session, the first meeting of his crew, day 1 of filming. And, in the midst of all of it, he began a new life with his bride.
